One day Cecy came home from a mountain bike ride with a sly smile on her face. She said, "You'll never guess what kind of animal I saw on my ride today." I thought about the animals we see out on the trails and I said, "I bet you saw a bobcat." She said, "No!" "Hmm I bet you saw a coyote." I said. I just recently saw two coyotes for the first time in West Marin. She said, "No!" Deer and rabbit sounded too common for her mischievous smile, but I said, Did you see a deer or a rabbit? She said, "No! Its animal I bet you've never seen on a ride in Marin."
"Don't tell me you saw a mountain lion." That must be it. I had never seen a mountain lion in Marin. Though I did see one by her sister's house near Nevada City. I remember I saw it just as Cecy missed a turn on the trail and slid into a bush. I yelled, "Look a mountain lion." She yelled, "Get me out of the bush." I thought, "Shoot I got to help her. She's too precious for bait" And then the cat disappeared. But she just smiled and said, "Bigger than a mountain lion." I said, "No way. There's no animal out there bigger than a mountain lion." She said, "A tiger is bigger than a mountain lion." "What! You're trying to tell me you saw a tiger?!" "Yep I saw a tiger toward the end of my ride."
Should I believe her I thought. A tiger. No way Than the next day the Marin I.J. came out with a picture of a tiger in the backyard of house right next door to the trail. The article said the tiger trainer was keeping him in a friend's yard for a few days and the neighbors were not happy. So there is definitely an animal Cecelia has seen on a mountain bike ride that I have never seen. And she being such a cat person it seem only fitting.
